The first St Giles College was founded in London in 1955. Since then the organisation has grown in the UK, USA and Brazil.

Today, with 50 years' experience in teaching English and running schools, the St Giles Group of colleges is one of the largest and most successful international English language training organisations, with a total of seven schools worldwide. All St Giles centres in the UK are accredited by the British Council and are members of English UK (formerly ARELS). St Giles San Francisco is a member of the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP) and its teacher training courses are approved by the California State Department of Education. The teacher training courses at St Giles Brighton, Highgate and San Francisco are all validated by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) and the training course at St Giles London Central is validated by Trinity College London.

Teaching is the core service, and to maintain the highest teaching standards the teachers have special qualifications in English Language Teaching. All of them are carefully selected and extensively briefed in the St Giles approach to learning and teaching. Teachers improve their qualifications with further study and training, and all St Giles centres offer them regular in-service training for teachers. St Giles is also a leading teacher training organisation, offering Certificate and Diploma ELT qualifications.
